About Lather & Melt
It started with a bar of soap...then a wax melt. And, well, things got a little out of hand. Sort of like the cats...
For about 25 years, I bought the same glycerin-based soap from a small, local soap shop. When it closed during COVID, I began ordering from its only franchised location across the country. Prices rose, shipping was expensive, and scent choices were limited—but it worked...until it didn't. When back-to-back family emergencies forced that location to temporarily close as well, I was left without the soap I had used for decades. I looked for suitable alternatives, which were over-priced, didn't lather, and smelled like Play-Doh. They were quickly tossed in the trash.
Meanwhile, I had also fallen in love with wax melts. In a house full of cats, dogs and general chaos, candles were out. Reed diffusers? Meh. Plug-ins smelled too chemically. Water-based diffusers meant constant refilling and cleaning. Seriously, where does that slime even come from? Wax melts gave me the fragrance I loved without the flame, air quality issues, or extra work. They are perfection. (See our blog for no-maintenance wax melters-the only way to do it!)
But alas, at the same time as my soap withdrawal, one of my favorite wax melt makers closed her shop as well.
Apparently, the universe was trying to tell me something.
I started tracking down the fragrances I missed and experimenting with making my own soap. We’re a picky household—we notice the fragrance, how a soap rinses, how our skin feels afterwards, and especially the lather.
So I kept experimenting.
Not enough lather. Don’t like the scent. Too squeaky clean.
And then…we entered the Goldilocks Zone.
Eventually, I wasn’t just replacing the products we’d lost. I was making versions we liked even better, with more fragrances, thoughtful ingredients, and a little more personality.
And so, Lather & Melt Began.
We believe everyday products should smell wonderful, perform beautifully and feel special—but never so precious or expensive that you save them for a special occasion.
Beautiful soap belongs in your shower. Great fragrance belongs EVERYWHERE.
No occasion required.
